Following the successful launch of the ZimPAP peace project, ROHR has started deploying Civilians Friends for Peace in all districts of the country. On the 8th of December 2017, Civilian Friends for Peace in Chitungwiza organized a peace soccer. The tournament was attended by six representatives of ZimPAP, people from various areas around Chitungwiza, also in attendance were local councilors and activists from across the political divide.
There were 8 teams in attendance and more than 200 people who were watching from the terraces. In his address, Mr Mambo Madimutsa( leader of the Chitungwiza CFPs) applaud ROHR international for coming back (after the successful launch of ZimPAP in Chitungwiza few months ago) and provide a platform for the Friends for Peace to meet and map a way forward. He also said that, the ZimPAP peace project is very crucial given that 2018 elections are fast approaching.
The same sendiments wer also echoed by Mr Zhakata (ROHR International programmes officer). He noted that people need to take lessons from soccer and apply them in their daily socio-political interactions. We might belong to different political parties but we need to remember that we are all Zimbabweans, lets all unite against all forms of violence.
Meanwhile Mr Zhakata thanked ROHR UK chapter and president Ephraim Tapa for the financial support which without which the functionality of ROHR Zimbabwe chapter would not have been a reality.
Top three teams were awarded money prices and a trophy was also presented to the number one team.
Many players interviewed on the sidelines of the ground louded ROHR International for outlining plans to make the tournament an ongoing initiative with the next tournament expected to take place early next year.
Moreso, preparations for yet another tournament in Manicaland province has already began and many people in Manicaland are very enthusiastic about the programme.
